At Stratus he became well-versed in premium wine production techniques and the systematic rigour of how to blend different batches of wine together to create something cohesive and complex.
Roberts sees blending as a great tool for winemakers. “It’s a particular part of winemaking that I really enjoy,”
He became the winemaker for Fielding Estate in 2009 where he focuses on creating the best expression of a vintage that he can, extrapolating the unique characteristics of the Beamsville Bench terroir. Sometimes, the result is completely unexpected, yet, in typical Fielding fashion, extraordinary.
Energetic and passionate about the winery and the wine industry, Richie is always ready to take on the challenges of a profession that’s continuously evolving. The quality of his wines comes from great skill and patience, and it’s his dedication to crafting wine that so many people respect and enjoy.
In 2013, Richie was honoured as a business leader in Niagara as part of the Business Link's Top 40 under 40 for his innovation within the winemaking industry.
Curtis Fielding and his wife Heidi, lead the dynamic team who are passionate about winemaking and Niagara's wine industry. When Curtis started farming, his goal was to grow the best quality wine grapes to supply the family winery with the crops to make a small batch of high quality wines. The Fieldings continue this practice and are committed to sustainable farming. Richie Roberts, winemaker, joined the team in 2007 and has led the winemaking team to success with innovative and enjoyable wines from the Fielding vineyards.
The Fieldings are proud to support the Niagara Wine Industry and participate in programs and events throughout the region, they are members of the Grape Growers of Ontario and work closely with the Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute at Brock University and the Niagara College Teaching Winery.
