Wineries to Watch in 2014


Welcome. Every so often we sit down at the computer research a winery, taste a few wines and tell you what we have learned. In 2012 we posted our first list of Wineries to Watch and followed with 2013 Most of those wineries have proven our predictions to be correct. Below are some of the wineries we feel qualified to be on Wines of Canada's 2014 page The winery must produce quality wines and have outstanding hospitality.


The Fort Berens Estate Winery

Their 2012 Chardonnay picked up the distinguished title of “White Wine of the Year” at Cornucopia, celebration of food and wine. This award is confirmation that the terroir in Lillooet is well suited to growing top-quality Chardonnay and more outstanding wines will be released from the winery

Fort Berens Estate Winery is the first winery in Lillooet, BC. It is located on a sage-brush covered bench at the base of the Fraser Canyon's snow-capped mountains

The 2012 estate grown Riesling wins the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in 2014


Serendipity Winery

Since 2006, Judy Kingston has devoted her full time efforts to the Serendipity vineyard and winery.
Her two children have each put in summers working in the vineyard.

From the beginning the wines were good but last years releases took Serendipity to the next level.

The New York International Wine Competition named Serendipity BC Winery of the Year

Garron Elmes


Lake Breeze Vineyards

Their 2009 Tempest was named Red Wine of the year at the Canadian Championships

They won close to 50 medals in 2013 under Garron Elmes. Who has been the winemaker at Lake Breeze since the very first days of the winery


The View

The View Winery is situated on a parcel of land that has been in the Turton/Ward family for 5 generations.  Historically, apples were grown on the property. In the mid 1990's a transition began and orchard rows were replaced with vines.  Spartans and McIntosh gave way to Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Ehrenfelser, Optima and Pinotage.

Since 2006 Jennifer Turton-Molgat has proudly led The View Winery to success. The winery known for its feminine marketing approach with its attractive female team; has started to produce some amazing wines.

The list of awards continues to grow and so does its reputation for fun, hospitality and great wines. Look out wine lovers here comes the Okanagan View


Mission Hill Family Estate Winery

What can you say about the Okanagan's Mission Hill that has not already been said. 2013 was a great year for one of Canada's best know wineries Wine Align named them Winery of the Year.

They won World's best Pinot Noir at the Decanter Awards in London England. They shine under winemaker John Simes

Look for more amazing wines in 2014.

Seven Stones Winery

cultivates 20 acres of bench land overlooking British Columbia's spectacular Similkameen River Valley. Their reputation for producing quality wines has been well establish but they continue to grow and amaze us with their wines.


Kraze Legz Vineyard and Winery

located in picturesque village of Kaleden on the west side of Skaha Lake. This is a fun ( Crazy) winery owned by Gerry and Sue Thygesen.

The Kraze Legz wine labels set the wines apart from most other Okanagan wines, both for the 1920s themed names and for the keyhole on the back of each bottle. B y peeking through the keyholes on the wines – at least the whites – consumers can have fun discovering hidden artifacts among the feet of the dancers

However even more important is the quality of the wines. InterVin Wine Awards 2012  Cakewalk 2010 Merlot Silver Medal Top Ten Aromatic Blends from NWAC 2013  The Lindy Hop 2012 . The cellar is impresssive Watch out for Kraze Legz

River Stone

The winery located near Oliver is owned by Ted & Lorraine Kane . Ted started making wines at the age of 17 with a passion for winemaking and the love of all things technical.

Recently the winery entered four wines into the world famous Intervin Competition nd came away with four awards

Watch for River Stone in 2014.


Tyler Harlton Wines

One of British Columbia's Okanagan newest wineries which quickly establish a reputation for making quality wines. Their Viognier Pinot Gris 2012 made our list of Best Wines of 2013. Watch for them to continue to climb the road of success in 2014.



Black Cloud

A virtual winery owned by Bradley James Cooper and his wife Audralee Daum. Devoted exclusively to Pinot Noir wines from Okanagan grapes.

Bradley is the award winning winemaker for Township 7

2014 should be the year of the Black Cloud

Beaufort Vineyards

Vineyard & Estate Winery is family-owned and is the first winery to be established in the Comox Valley, beautiful Vancouver Island. The wineries founders are Susan and Jeff Vandermolen.

They are most awarded winery from the Island with over 50 medals won in their short history. Producing consistant quality wines from Ortega and Pinot Gris to Shiraz.

Its time to proclaim the winery and its winemaker Susan Vandermolen the winery to watch in 2014

Angels Gate Winery

This Beamsville Ontario Winery has been producing wines for over ten Years. They produce 35,000 cases annually. the winemaker is Philip Dowell

After an award winning 2013 including a Double Gold - 2011 Mountainview Sauvignon Blanc . We feel Angels Gate is one of the wineries to watch in 2014.


Muscedere Vineyards

The 163-acre property was purchased by the Muscedere family in 1986 is located in the Lake Erie North Shore region of Ontario

2013 was award winning year of the winery including INTERVIN International Wine Awards

A winery to watch in 2014

Flat Rock Cellars

Founded in 1999 on a spectacular piece of the Niagara Escarpment (Ontario)known as the Jordan Bench – Flat Rock is perched on a gently rolling slope studded with vines. The winery building is a quirky, glass encased, hexagonal masterpiece that‘s distinctive and fun.

Flat Rock is building a reputation for its Riesling The 2007 Chardonnay Reserve was award best of show at the Cuvée. Jay Johnston is the winemaker

Ann-Staff Estate Winery

You can't hold a good woman down. Sue-Ann Staff has over the years build a solid reputation as one of the best winemakers in Canada.

She established her winery on the family's 200 year old estate, on the brow of the Niagara Escarpment in Jordan, Ontario, Canada.

Ontario wine writers have nothing but praise for her Pinot Grigio and Riesling wines

2014 should be a great year for the winery


Pearl Morissette

Located in Jordan on Niagara's Twenty Mile Bench. The Pearl Morissette project started in 2007 as a collaboration between winegrower François Morissette, a French Canadian who was trained in Burgundy as a vigneron, and Toronto developer Mel Pearl

Their wines score in the 90s. The 2011, 2012 Riesling reach a high of 93. Pearl Morissette Cabernet Franc 2010 scored 94.
Wines of Canada contributor Fred Couch say's this is the Ontario Winery to Watch For.


Jost Vineyards

is situated on over 100 acres by the beautiful North Shores Sunrise Trail in Nova Scotia.  The largest and longest operating winery in the Atlantic region,

In 2012 veteran food industry and brand expert Carl Sparkes purchased a stake in the winery. It was a shot of pure adrenalin for the winery increasing its already strong passion for producing Nova Scotia Wines

In 2013 the winery continued to wine awards and strong approval for its cellar of fine wines.

We expect even greater things from Jost in 2014.



Benjamin Bridge Vineyards

located in the heart of the Gaspereau Valley on the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia, where the cool climate bears an uncanny affinity with the Champagne region of France

Tony Aspler Canadian wine author wrote without question, the best sparkling wines I have tasted in Canada

Benjamin is continually striving to produce Sparkling wines equal to none 2014 should be another strong year for them


Richibucto River Wine Estate

Located in New Brunswick was established in 2005. It is owned and operated by its founder, Alan Hudson and his family. The estate is set beside the Richibucto River, providing visitors with beautiful sunsets and breathtaking views. The winery is named after the river to reflect the region. In 2013 the winery produced a number of Gold medal wines as well as collecting its share of silver and bronze.

2014 could be the year Richibucto puts New Brunswick on Canada's wine map.

Vignoble Domaine Bresee

Vignoble Domaine Bresee

Located in the Eastern township region of Quebec Situated on the family farm, the winery offers a picnic area, scenic overlook and fish feeding.

There is a buzz about this Sutton Quebec winery. The word is they make the best reds in Quebec.
