Tightrope 2023 Fleet Road -Viognier
After years of studying and working for other wineries Lyndsay and Graham O'Rourke decided to open their own winery. Having attained honours degrees in both oenology and viticulture while studying in New Zealand at Lincoln University. Graham worked at Mission Hill . Lyndsay was the winemaker at Ruby Blues Winery.
After working throughout the Okanagan Valley Graham felt the Naramata Bench offered the best terroir to produce fresh wines with excellent fruit & minerality that would also offer great age-ability. Lyndsay and Graham made a welcome return to the Okanagan Valley, settling on the Naramata Bench in 2007.
The first vineyard was purchased in 2007 which was then an apple orchard. Vines were plated in 2007-2008. The first vintage was 2012. Today they have 3 vineyards all on the Naramata Bench - Fleet Road (home vineyard); Thomas Vineyard; Marmot Vineya
The wine comes from Tightrope's Fleet Road Vineyard in the Naramata Bench.All the vines were shoot & leaf thinned and fruit was dropped to one cluster per shoot. The grapes were handpicked.
The grapes were whole-cluster pressed and the juice was cold-settled for three days before being racked off solids. The juice was then racked to barrel for fermentation into a combination of French Oak & Acacia barrels. Fermentation was carried out at 14 – 160 °C and took 14 days to complete. This wine was then aged on lees for 3 months to obtain a rich silky finish. Malolactic fermentation was not performed.
Viognier is a full bodied wine that is rich with floral characteristic. It has become very popular in the Okanagan.
Tightropes. Viognier has a nice golden colour and begins witha very nice aroma.The wine is totally refreshing and smooth with a nice finish.favours of Honeysuckle,necture, tangerine, nutmeg combine to almost purefection.
