Gewürztraminer

The Fraser Valley is home to some ob British Columbia's best wineries. Among them is Backyard Vineyards. Located in Langley Township just a short drive from Vancouver. Backyard can trace its history back to 2013.

Today the winery Diamond Estates operating as Lakeview Wine Co out of Ontario. Since purchasing the winery a number of up grades has been completed at the winery. It has some very nice out door space to enjoy their excellent cellar of wines.

Two of my favourites wines year after year are the Reserve Viognier and the Bacchus. Recently i finished of not one but two bottles of Gewürztraminer. One was shared one I had all to myself.

Gewürztraminer is an aromatic wine grape variety, used in white wines , and performs best in cooler climates. It is sometimes referred to colloquially as Gewürz . Gewürztraminer is a variety with a pink to red skin colour, which makes it a "white wine grape" as opposed to the blue to black-skinned varieties commonly referred to as "red wine grapes". The variety has high natural sugar and the wines are white and usually off-dry , with a flamboyant bouquet of lychees . Indeed, Gewürztraminer and lychees share the same aroma compounds. Dry Gewürztraminer's may also have aromas of roses, passion fruit and floral notes. It is not uncommon to notice some spritz (fine bubbles on the inside of the glass)

It accounts for about 8% of all grape production in BC it is on the increase

Backyard Vineyards - 2020 Simple Social Gewürztraminer

Pair this wine with seasoned chicken or soft cheese. The wine starts with a very nice floral aroma of citrus fruits, lychee. Grapefruit and Mango. The palette is delighted by flavours of Honey dew and Melon 92.

A nice summer patio wine. I suggest that the wine be well chilled prior to opening.
