Algoma Highlands Winery

Off the beaten path in Wawa, Ontario is a rather surprising large Blueberry farm. The farm is located between Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay in Northern Ontario. Algoma Highlands Wild Blueberry Farm and Winery is owned and operated by Trevor and Tracy Laing. The total area is slightly in excess of 600 acres with approximately 450 acres being level sandy plains, ideal for wild blueberry production. This area has been identified as highly suitable for this endeavor.

Trevor was born and raised in the Wawa area, has a degree in geology, was a forestry contractor, and has extensive experience as a real estate investor. The Laings, along with their four children, are now first-generation farmers, increasing their farming operation since 2012 with plans to continue to grow the business.

The farm employs about 37 people during peak season. They make jams,sauces and even Blueberry BBQ sauce.

They produce Blueberry wine. Strawberry wine and Strawberry/Rhubarb wine.
