May 2004 Tour

In May Barbara and I had the opportunity to spend a couple of Days at Larch Hills Winery in Salmon Arms. Our first stop on this trip was Kelowna.

Kelowna was our starting point and of course we had to visit a couple of winery's in the area.

We returned to St HubertuS to obtain a few more
bottles of their Fireman Red . Since CedarCreek was on the same road we also stopped by for a visit

St Hubertus new wine shop is now open.

Located on Lakeshore Road in Kelowna.
CedarCreek Winery is owned by the
Fitzpatrick family. They have a very beautifully designed winery

Situated on a hillside overlooking Okanagan Lake and surrounded by 50 acres of vineyard with immaculately kept gardens

A warm reception greeted as we entered the wine shop. Our hostess was extremely helpful and charming. After tasting a number of wines which were all excellent, we began selecting wines to take home.

Its a nice scenic drive heading north on Highway 97 from Kelowna to Salmon Arm
and the Shuswap. We stopped in Armstrong
to visit the Cheese factory.
Salmon Arm is located on an arm of Shuswap Lake in what many refer to as the emerald valley. Larch Hill winery sits o the hills side providing an amazing view of the northern valley

We arrived in time for wine and cheese before dinner. Our host Hans and Hazel are two of the most wonderful people you could ever meet.
Add the in the taste of their wines and you will understand why Larch Hills is one of our favorite wineries.

Winemaker Hans Nevrkla promised me a day of hard work pulling weeds in the vineyard.
It did not of course turn out that way.

We did some work ,surveying the land for what may be a new picnic area over looking the vineyards and the valley below .

We also took time to taste the new vintage
direct from the tanks.

After another brief attempted at work we
were back in the winery greeting new customers and tasting wine.

The tasting's included Larch Hills' Tamarack Rosé 2000 which won a prestigious Gold Medal, with special “Superlative” recognition at the N.W. Wine Summit . The Tamarack Rosé also won Silver at the All-Canadian Championships, held in Ontario May 11 & 12, and at the Okanagan Wine Festival Spring Best of Varietal Judging .

Larch Hill is best known for its Ortega.
