One of most enjoyable wineries we have visited. A very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Wonderful facilities.
40 Knots Estate Winery was established in 2005 on 24 lush coastal acres in the heart of the Comox Valley. The winery was purchased by Brenda Hetman-Craig and Layne Craig in July 2014
A visitor wrote " Our B&B owner highly recommended this winery as one of the best in the area. We arrived well before opening and saw that the gates were closed, so we phoned and they opened early for us. While the young lady who started serving us was very knowledgeable, the owner Layne introduced himself and led us through an amazing tasting of some of his best wines. We left with Ortega and his Pinot Noir which while only bottled 3 weeks prior showed huge potential. Thank you 40 Knots for showing us what quality wines can be produced on the island!" more

Dirty Laundry Vineyards
7311 Fiske St
Summerland, BC V0H 1Z2
|
Scherzinger Vineyards was originally bought by Edgar and Elizabeth Scherzinger as
a cherry orchard. The orchard
was removed and in its place Gewürztraminer was planted in 1978, then eventually
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The Scherzinger Vineyards was purchased by
Ron and Cher Watkins,
They changed the name to Dirty Laundry in 2005. Success followed and expansion was necessary so the Watkins sold to
Bob Campbell, Hermann Teichtmeister and partnership in 2007. The group expanded, planting about 50,000 vines on several sites in the Summerland area. Expansions begun in 2010, including separate wineries for white and red wines, are designed to grow Dirty Laundry to a production of 20,000 cases. The winery has tripled its tasting room, added a conference and party room, added parking for buses and has build a new patio cantilevered over the vineyard.
The Marketing company that came up with Blasted Church suggested Dirty Laundry. Back in the 1800’s a former railway builder named Sam Suey decided he’d had enough of the hard labour pounding spikes and laying track, and opened a laundry in Summerland where the labourers could bring their work clothes for washing. While they sat around waiting for the clothes to air dry, the men would play cards and gamble. Soon Suey spotted another opportunity. He converted the floor above the laundry into a gaming hall and bordello.
The winery has an excellent Pizza restaurant called the Red Iron Grillie. The restaurant over looks the valley. They host numerous events through out the year.
You have to pass a washing line hung with underwear to get into the shop!

Intermiel
10291, De La Fresniére Rd.
Mirabel, Saint-Benoît,
Quebec J0N 1K0
|
|
A family-run farm with 5,000+ honeybee hives. They produce everything honey including mead. Natives of Picardy, a region in the north of France, teachers Viviane and Christian Macle, settled in Québec in 1969. In 1976, Christian, who had been passionate about beekeeping since his childhood, bought a small farm in the Saint-Benoît (Mirabel) area, which the couple transformed into a bee farm over time. They had about a hundred beehives at the time.
In the 80s, they officially launched a line of honey. This visionary couple, fuelled by their passion for beekeeping and equipped with their teaching skills, decided to acquaint people with the wonderful world of bees and opened a small honey shop. Over the years, and after many expansions, the Macle family, always motivated by the desire to spread their knowledge, further continued their growth by remaining open to visitors year-round and diversifying their products. In the 90s, they began to produce meads, maple brandy liquors and ice ciders. Today, Intermiel is a large-scale farm that manages the production of 8 000 beehives, runs a 14 000 tap sugar bush and a 600 apple tree orchard. The Macle family can be proud of producing a line of honey which is wholly of Québec origin derived from the production of their beehives, and supported by a traceability program. Intermiel is recognized provincially and across North America for the quality and diversity of its products, as well as for its educational visits. Thanks to its agritourism orientation, it attracts more than 100 000 visitors a year, of which 15 000 are students from Québec schools.
In 2006, the company’s future was assured, when the Macles’ daughter, Éléonore, assumed ownership of the business along with her parents. Éléonores’ husband, Cyril Lapeyrie is responsible of the maple syrup production and he is the Farm Manager at Intermiel for beekeeping.
Their mead brands are Medieval, Chouchen’n Signé Macle, Api Gin, Rosée, Bouquet Printanier, Verge d’or, Benoîte,
Mead maker is: Mr. André Abi Raad (more that 20 years now)
Philosophy:? Bee happy. Bee healthy.
