Strewn Estates Winery

For over a dozen years Strewn has produced quality Niagara VQA wines. Owned by Joe Will and Jane Langdon, they offer specialized tours and wine country cooking classes at their attractive Niagara-on-the-Lake facility. Joe Will is the winemaker.

The 10-acre property contains a vineyard set beside neighbouring peach orchards, with grapes planted on the flat portion and on the slope down to Four Mile Creek. The site was once the home of Niagara Canning Company. In 1997, the original buildings were extensively rebuilt to create the visitor centre at Strewn. This includes the Tasting room, Cooking School and first class restaurant Terroir La Cachette.

The Wine Country Cooking School is a real cooking school located within the visitor centre at Strewn. Aimed at "recreational cooks", the classes are completely hands-on (except for the clean up!) and take place in the beautiful teaching kitchen or at the grills on its adjacent patio beside the herb garden.

The School's 'wine country' menus emphasize seasonal, local products and food & wine matching. All the recipes have been developed specifically for recreational cooks to make again and again at home.

Strewn is open year round and visitors can taste wines (most only available at the winery) in our attractive Tasting Room, which is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The Main Tasting Bar offers a selection of our more 'approachable' wines while the Terroir Bar features Tasting Flights, limited edition and pre-release wines, and a monthly wine & food pairing.

The winery offers numerous events through out the year including. Wine dinners with the winemaker, interactive wine education seminars and group events to meet your needs

The philosophy at Strewn is the belief that all great wine starts in the vineyard and working with nature to produce the absolutely best wine possible. Believe in living the "good life" and savouring life's moments with family and friends. The perfect accompaniment to this lifestyle is enjoying fine wine and locally grown food.

The Strewn "style" emphasizes the flavours the grapes bring to the wine, supported by the aromas and tastes that develop through wine making. Our wines are made more in the classic European style than the soft fruit driven style from some new world wine regions. Strewn wines have tannin and acidity, which produce the refreshing quality that makes a wine a great accompaniment for food.

Recommended Wines:

Strewn Barrel Aged Chardonnay 2007
Sweet vanilla and oak aromas with pear and apple fruit in behind. All that follows to the palate with added creamy, buttery flavours

Cabernet-Merlot 2008 TwoVines
Lovely aromas of dark berries and dried fruit combine with hints of oak in this assemblage of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is smooth and round with light tannin and a refreshing finish.
