Brian Schmidt  

Brian is the Vice President and Winemaker, Vineland Estates Winery in Vineland Ontario located in the Niagara Peninsula. Brian born in Kelowna, British Columbia and was raised on a vineyard that had been in the family for three generations. The Schmidt family was one of the founding families of the Okanagan wine industry (See History)

It was of course easy for Brian to establish a passion for the vineyard and winemaking. He educated himself by traveling through Europe. In 1991, Brian traveled to Ontario to train with his brother Allan, who was the original winemaker at Vineland Estates. Brian took over this position at the winery in 1994.

Brian has been instrumental in building a reputation for the winery as a producer of Ontario’s best Rieslings, in focusing the portfolio of wines on additional signature varietals such as Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, and in the creation of the iconic Elevation brand of wines. His continuing legacy is to build Vineland Estates’ reputation for premium wines

Brain and the entire Schmidt family are known for contributing and assisting other in their efforts to produce fine wines in Ontario

Open all year, Vineland Estates Winery is not only the home of fine wine and cuisine, but an unmatched touring facility and wine country destination. Vineland Estates Winery produces 60,000 cases of wine annually from table wines to sparking wines , late harvest and Icewine. Their wine can be found in Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong The Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, and Russia

The first Canadian Winery to win the “Grand Vinitaly Top Winery Award” at Vinitaly International Wine Competition in Verona, Italy 2003
