Chaberton Estate Winery

2014 - Reserve Bacchus

Since the founding of this website in 1992 Barbara and I tasted thousands of wines. We have been there as Canadian wines have risen from mediocrity with a few good ones to average wines in the early 2000s to some very good ones by 2010. Day we find the majority of Canadian wines to be very good to wines that equal the worlds very best. Once in a while you find one that is above and beyond the rest. Most recently the 2015 Reserve Bacchus reaches the rating of incredible.

Last Febuary on Valentines day Barbara and had dinner at the Bacchus Bistro at Chaberton Estate Winery where we began the evening with a glass of their Reserve Bacchus we enjoyed the wine so much we came home with a few bottles. They have been waiting in the cellar for us. We decided to open the bottle on the long weekend. It was a very hot summer night and wine was properly chilled.

The wine was perfect the flavours just overwhelmed. From the sweet armous to the firts sip to everlasting fruitful lingering taste. It was Incredible.

Chaberton was the first of the Fraser Valley wineries, Domaine de Chaberton was opened by founder's Claude and Inge Violet. This very successful winery was named after their vineyard that they had owned in France. The Fraser Valley location was selected for its proximity to Vancouver, the micro climate, south facing slope and quality of soil and low rain fall. The winery was sold in 2005 to Anthony Cheng and Eugene Kwan, business partners In 2014 the name was changed to Chaberton Estate Winery

The 55 acre parcel of land produces a selection of vitis vinifera 'cool climate' grapes including their signature wine grape "Bacchus". The first vines planted, these Bacchus plants are now nearing 30 years old! Joining them are: Siegerrebe, Madeleine Sylvaner, Reichensteiner, Madeleine Angevine, Ortega and Gamay Noir.
