My wife and I had the pleasure of being invited to the launch of Vista D'oro Winery's flagship wine. Vista D'oro is a small winery owned by Patrick and Lee Murphy located in Langley, British Columbia.
Before the winery opened they ran a farming business with a market featuring produce, fresh baking and Artisanal Preserves. Their flagship wine D'oro 2007 is a fortified walnut wine.
Walnut wine is not a product one finds with regularity on store shelves, in fact, if given a choice most of us would choose a wine featuring; Merlot, Gamay, Shiraz or Pinot Gris. Our expectations unless we were avid enthusiasts of fruit wines would be low.
Winemaker Patrick Murphy surprised and delighted us with his truly outstanding wine. The surprise begins with a powerful aroma of delightful flavours. The aroma immediately said this wine is fantastic. As I tasted the wine the warm sweetness, its tantilizing flavour and its pure intoxicating finish.
Although I was very tempted to enjoy a second glass I did not. At 17% alcohol one does not want to tempt fate when driving. My wife who loves her Port wines was also extremely impressed by the wine did enjoy a second glass.
We were also impressed with the delicious appetizers. The event was held at the Chow Restaurant on Granville Street in Vancouver and organized by Alexander Ink Public Relations.
Combined with the winery they produced an outstanding event.
Along with the premium wine Vista D'oro provided samples of many of their market products. One of many fine products that stood out was Lee's Green Walnut and Grappa Artisanal Preserves which she made from the left over walnuts.
