They have ten acres overlooking Campbell Valley Park and Golden Ears Mountain Range,
4.5 acres are planted with grape vines including three varieties of Alsation, Schoenburger, Siegerrebe and Ortega. There are test blocks of Pinot Gris and Leon Millot plus two acres of Marechal Foch. Patrick is expanding the grapes and has acquired vines from the plant health testing facility on Vancouver Island. We will visit the winery a few more times this summer to see the progress of his vineyard and experiment varietals.
As we parked the car we were greeted with a cheerful greeting and wave by owner winemaker Patrick Murphy. We met in the Cottage style tasting room. Patrick took me on a tour of the vineyard will Barbara studied the gems in the Farmgate shop.
Patrick made the decision to to bring in Grapes from the Okanagan. He prefers to grow his own or purchase them from Vancouver Island. The weather has been good this years and his vineyard was bursting with vines progressing way ahead of last year at this time.
There are also some well aged Apple trees on the property and one huge walnut tree. Our first tasting was Patrick's Homestyle Apple Cider. A very dry old style cider It had a most interesting flavour
