On Valentine's Day you want to take the one you love to a special place, for me, it was fine dining at the Bacchus Bistro at Chaberton Estate Winery for my wife Barbara. Bacchus Bistro serves authentic French Bistro cuisines prepared with local ingredients and a West Coast flair. Tonight Executive Chef Ashley had a special menu prepared. (see below)

We drove through the country roads of Langley in pouring rain but our spirits were not dampened as we knew an excellent meal was waiting for us. Upon arriva,l we were promptly greeted and quickly seated by a young lady whom we had met on our previous visit to the Bistro. Once seated we were greeted by Jana and her bright smile, Jana has been our server on numerous occasions which is a plus.

The evening began with a glass of 2014 Reserve Bacchus. Over the years Chaberton has been known for its quality Bacchus. This one was perfect, a touch sweeter than the 2013, very smooth on the palate.

For our appetizer we both selected the Heirloom Tomato and Mt Lehman Buffala Fresca Salad tossed with baby arugula in a red wine vinaigrette and balsamic pearls. It had all of Barbara's favourite ingredients.

The main course called for a bottle of Chaberton's 2011 Reserve Syrah. Nothing makes a good dinning experience like a bottle of fine wine. We were unable to finish the bottle, Jana expertly packaged so that we may take it home to enjoy.

For the main course Barbara selected the Pan Seared Halibut served with sauteed bok choy with carrot and ginger cream sauce. I went with the signature dish Boeuf Bourguignon. I was not disappointed, the beef was prepared to perfection, tenders as tender could be and full of flavour.

Bacchus serves a complimentary dish of scalloped potatoes that are a culinary delight! I could not wait for the photo to be taken before sampling but believe me it was worth spoiling a photo for.

We advanced to the final course of the evening, dessert and coffee. Barbara chose the Tahitian Vanilla Creme Brulee and I went with the Chocolate Tart both were excellent

We had stuck up a conversation with the couple seated at a table near us; they too are regular visitors to the winery. The conversation contributed to the enjoyment of our meal.

We are looking forward to the warmer months so that we may once again enjoy the patio, fine wines and excellent food.of Cahberton Estate WInery.
