British Columbia's Fraser Valley has another fruit winery you must visit, even if it is a bit off the beaten path. Ripples Estate Winery is a family owned business located just east of Abbotsford and west of Chilliwack, close to the USA border. A most beautiful part of the Valley.
The winery is owned by Paul and Caroline Mostertman who started as farmers and later established Woodbridge Ponds. Woodbridge is a wholesale/retail nursery that specializes in pond plants, pond hardware and supplies, as well as AAA Koi fish. The beautiful display gardens and ponds showcase their products and provide inspiration.
Nestled in the beautiful gardens of Woodbridge Ponds is the winery which specializes in blueberry wines, with blueberries that are grown on site. The Fraser Valley is known for its amazing blueberry production.
Ripples offers a most relaxing atmosphere among their garden settings to enjoy their award winning wines.. They currently produce four wines. In-tem-per-ance (table wine), An-the-ia (port style), Am-Ri-Ta (port style) and Cu-pe- re (dessert wine)
Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by Kelly who is responsible for the tasting room on Thursdays and Fridays. She gave us the grand tour of the facilities; from the Koi ponds to the beautiful wedding hall.
This building currently serves as a light lunch area but is to become the main tasting room next year
The estate dog Charlie and owner Caroline
Co-Owner Caroline came by, we relaxed and chatted in the courtyard before joining Kelly for a tasting. Paul Mostertman (co-owner) would soon join us making a very enjoyable tasting. Both Barbara and I were quite impressed by their wines. The aromas, intense flavours were most impressive! Barbara purchased a dessert wine that will no doubt be served at one of her delicious meals.
Their award winning wines
We began the tasting with the 2015 In-tem-per-ance made with a combination of three blueberries, Draper, Reka and Liberty. Nice aroma, true blueberry flavours deep colour, most satisfyingly 90. An-the-ia intense aroma, complex flavours with a lingering finish 92
The Am-Ri-Ta was amazing sensational flavour very intense. 94 Barbara's favourite was the dessert wine Cu-pe-re.93
Great hospitality, amazing location and good wines makes Ripples a MUST visit Winery! Caroline came up with the clever way of designing the labels; as she explained "When a word is googled it is broken down into syllables, why not do that on the label" Barbara and I thought it was brilliant!
