Cost of wines
Recently I received a Newsletter from a distinguished columnist for a British Columbia newspaper
In his newsletter he talked about the good wines available in the store ( BCLC) for $6.99
A low price for wines in British Columbia. I had to check this out by visiting the local BCLC store
Sorry to say I could not find a wine for this price the best I could do after searching was $9.96
The more expensive wines ranging from $14.00 to $28.00 were displayed prominently on the front shelves;
With the higher priced bottles at hand level a common trick for retailers. The lower priced wines were on the back shelves against the wall.
An other writer
from The Canadian Press
wrote
Canada's largest wine producer isn't drowning its sorrows because shelves in the province's liquor stores are being lined with more expensive vintages.
Wines in the $12 to $15 range pumped up sales by $17.6 million, which has the agency vowing to “trade consumers up beyond the $8 price point for a 750 mL bottle.”
So what is happening? Sales for wines produced in Canada is on the increase for both
lower priced and higher price wines. Wine sellers and wine producers have chosen to pursue the more lucrative market of higher price wines. Reminds me of gas prices.
For those of you asking why I don't do more wine reviews . Its simple I can not afford it.
